Discover Your Path at Shaftesbury Park: The Bilingual & Enterprise Streams
Welcome to Shaftesbury Park Primary School. This guide is designed to introduce you to the two unique educational paths we offer our students: the Bilingual Stream and the Enterprise Stream. Both programs are built upon our core philosophy of being "a local school with a global perspective," providing an enriching and forward-thinking education. Both streams are built upon our dynamic International Curriculum, which connects learning through engaging, thematic topics, but each stream applies this curriculum through a unique lens.
What is the Bilingual Stream?
The Bilingual Stream, which we are proud to offer at Shaftesbury Park, provides a unique opportunity for children to learn French alongside their regular curriculum. Its primary goal is to provide students with a broader global perspective, enhance their academic achievement, and develop superior problem-solving skills through the cognitive benefits of bilingualism.
How Learning Happens: An Immersive French Environment
Our immersive approach helps children develop their French language skills naturally and effectively. The curriculum is carefully structured to balance language acquisition with core subject mastery.
• English-Taught Subjects: To ensure a strong foundation, Literacy and Mathematics are always taught in English.
• French-Taught Subjects: Subjects from our engaging International Curriculum—such as science, history, and geography—are taught entirely in French.
• Learning Progression:
◦ Early Years: Children begin their journey in Reception, learning through fun French games, activities, and songs.
◦ Primary Years: From Year 1, students build vocabulary and begin working on French phonics.
◦ Key Stage 2: By this stage, students can read, write, and converse confidently in French. As they progress, children develop native-like proficiency and can handle French language tasks at a level expected in secondary school.
What is the Enterprise Stream?
The Enterprise Stream is designed to equip children with the essential skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and practical experience needed for future success. The program's primary goal is to enhance future employability and prepare students to become the innovative leaders and creators of tomorrow.
How Learning Happens: Practical Skills in Action
Enterprise Education is woven into all subjects through the International Curriculum. Each topic is paired with a related theme from the Skills Builder programme, which focuses on developing eight key skills and is delivered through distinct pedagogical approaches, including a Business Approach, a Community Approach, an Environmental Approach, and a Problem-Solving Approach. For example, during the "Saving the World" topic, students might engage in a "Trash to Treasure" project, where they design and create eco-friendly toys from recycled materials.
This table offers a clear, at-a-glance comparison to help families understand the distinct focus of each specialized stream.

One School, One Community
Although students are enrolled in either the Bilingual or Enterprise Stream, our school fosters a collaborative environment where everyone benefits. Enterprise students gain valuable exposure to French language and culture, while Bilingual students participate in school-wide activities like Enterprise Challenge Days. This cross-stream collaboration enriches the learning experience for all students, ensuring every child at Shaftesbury Park develops a broad and balanced skill set.
